Face to face with the mountaineering legends: chestnut roasting (Törggelen) in Bressanone/Brixen...

Starting from 8 pm on 3 to 8 November, the world's best mountaineers and climbers will be reviving the old tradition of "warming down" in some of the many pubs and bars in Bressanone/Brixen and chat about their achievements, routes, experiences and adventures on the mountains in a relaxed atmosphere.

The tradition of warming down

Originated in the early 1930s, warming down used to be a popular custom in which mountaineers met up for one last climbing tour in November. Up until the late 70s, it was still practised in the Dolomites.

An occasion to meet and share experiences

Climbing together was a great way to exchange information and learn about other mountain fans' climbing techniques, trends and accomplishments as well as new belaying methods.

Warming down was also simply a sociable meeting and an occasion to talk about first-time ascents, difficult peaks or climbing routes and even tragic events, as well as a way of networking or cultivating friendships.
